Most overseas money transfers need a local partner to get over the finishing line. Local partners range from banks to cash pick-up locations. Continue reading to find out more about Azimo’s local partners.
What is a local partner?
Local partners are financial institutions that process or receive money transfers on Azimo’s behalf. Once a transfer is processed, the funds become available to your recipient.
Imagine sending a parcel from the UK to France. Although you might send it with Royal Mail, it’s La Poste (Royal Mail’s French partner) that will deliver it in France. The process of sending money abroad isn’t so different.
Who are Azimo’s local partners?
Azimo works with thousands of local partners around the world. These include:
- Cash pick-up locations like internet cafés and pawn shops.
- Mobile wallet providers.
- Mobile phone companies.
- The SWIFT network.
- Other remittance providers.
Let’s highlight a handful of Azimo’s payout partners, starting with BDO in the Philippines.
BDO (or Banco de Oro) is a bank that helps Azimo process transfers in the Philippines. These transfers to the Philippines include bank deposits, home delivery transfers and cash pick-ups. Home delivery (or door-to-door) transfers are especially helpful if you have vulnerable relatives back home.
To make a home delivery transfer,, choose ‘Home delivery’ as your delivery method and add your recipient’s phone number and address. Then send up to £800 to your recipient. Once your money arrives in the Philippines, a BDO courier will deliver the cash to your loved one’s address.
EasyPaisa is one of three mobile wallet partners Azimo uses in Pakistan. Mobile wallets are a lifeline for people in Pakistan without access to bank accounts. You can send money to a loved one’s EasyPaisa wallet and from there they can use it as they wish. With an EasyPaisa mobile wallet, your recipient can then:
- Send digital tohfas (gifts) to loved ones.
- Donate directly to charities like the Edhi Foundation.
- Buy discounted bus tickets in Pakistan.
- Get data bundles at discounted rates.
- Top up mobile airtime.
M-Pesa is the partner Azimo uses to process money transfers to mobile wallets in Kenya and Ghana. Founded in 2007, the company also provides financial services to people with limited access to bank accounts. M-Pesa also operates in:
Smith & Smith
Smith & Smith is a global money transfer provider. At Azimo, we partner with Smith & Smith to help process and pay out cash pick-up transfers in Romania.
Smith & Smith’s extensive network of locations make it popular with many Romanian migrants. Even better, Smith & Smith pick-up spots are open every day and offer Azimo payouts in euros and Romanian lei (LEI).
SCB (or Siam Commercial Bank) is one of Azimo’s new partners in Thailand. With Azimo, you can now send faster money transfers to SCB bank accounts. That’s because transfers to Thai bank accounts used to take around two days to complete. Thanks to SCB, you can send money to loved ones instantly.
